Trauma Therapy

After a traumatic event, your nervous system can stay on high alert. You might relive memories, avoid reminders, feel jumpy or numb, struggle with sleep, or blame yourself for things that weren’t in your control. Trauma therapy helps your brain and body relearn safety so you can feel present again. At Emberhaven, we offer trauma-informed care in person in Greensboro and High Point and via secure telehealth across North Carolina.

You've carried this long enough.

Signs You May Need Help

How We Treat Trauma At Emberhaven

Your plan is paced to your comfort and goals. We often begin with Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) principles to reduce reactivity, update painful beliefs, and build reliable coping routines. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) informed skills (grounding, distress tolerance, emotion regulation) give you tools for the toughest moments between sessions. With Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), we reconnect you to values and daily life even while symptoms are present. We include mindfulness to calm the nervous system and improve sleep. When inner conflict or family roles are involved, we add parts- and family/systems-informed work. As stability grows, we may introduce supported, gradual exposure or in-vivo practice to help your brain relearn safety around people, places, or sensations you’ve avoided. With your consent, we coordinate care with medical providers or prescribers when that supports healing.

What Trauma Therapy Sessions Look Like At Emberhaven

Early sessions focus on stabilization and safety so you feel equipped before any deeper work. From there, we move at your pace into processing: making sense of what happened, updating stuck beliefs, and reducing the power of memories without forcing graphic detail. As symptoms decrease, we emphasize reconnection in routines, relationships, and activities with confidence. Most people start with weekly sessions, then taper to biweekly as skills take hold. You’ll leave each visit with one or two realistic practices so progress continues between sessions. Common outcomes include fewer triggers and nightmares, better sleep and focus, stronger boundaries, and renewed engagement with work, school, and relationships.
